MARIA LINARES FREIRE
CREATIVE STATEMENT
Almost everything in the universe can be measured by numbers. How fascinating it is that we are surrounded by geometrical shapes. From the circles that come out from the waves to the striking lines of frequencies. My painting, The Timeless Union of the Atoms, explores the bonds between atoms and the levels of energy involved in the uniting or splitting of atomic structures. Particle Collisions is a video work showing the mathematical structures of particle collisions, inspired by work at CERN. Cogs of Time is a painting inspired by Albert Einstein's quote: 'People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion’, and by the book The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli. This image depicts time lapsing harmoniously in different planes of reality. From the microcosm to the macrocosm, perceptions of time vary depending on one’s position, without affecting another’s path.
BIOGRAPHY
Maria Linares Freire is an artist who explores the universe through fine arts, muralism, photography, and digital media. She was born in Andalucia, Spain – also the birthplace for her passion for the geometry hidden in nature – and moved to London in 1998, where she has developed her artistic career.
Linares Freire won the British Woman Artist award in July 2019 and was published in the book Contemporary Art Collectors (Japan Edition) as one of the most investable artists of 2020. She has also won the ‘Artist of the Future’ award by Contemporary Art Curator Magazine, the ‘Artistic Excellence Award’ by The Circle Foundation of the Arts, the ‘Dante Alighieri International Prize’ for the evolution of her career as an artist and the ‘Leonardo da Vinci International Prize’, among other awards. Her work can also be found in House and Garden, Abode2, World of Interiors, Aesthetica Magazine, and elsewhere. Her paintings have been exhibited on the Moon, London, Milan, Rome, Athens, New York, and her work was included in the iHASS (International Holo Art Space Station) collection sent aboard the SpaceX NASA cargo mission. The collection will be available at an exhibition later this year.
Finding muralism and street art fascinating, she has painted in some iconic graffiti places in London, such as the Leake Street tunnel, Shoreditch, Brixton, Stockwell Hall of Fame, Waterloo Arches, Hackney, and Trellick Towers. She is also the Editor for the Arts and polymath in residence for the magazine Revue {R}evolution, and is a member of the British Woman Artist Association, Holo Art, The Circle Foundation of the Arts and WOM Collective. In 2022 she started research on the geometric qualities of the microcosm. For this project, she has collaborated with ASCUS Art & Science, Edinburgh.
